Margarita Luviano

Program Advisor 

Ms.Maggie was a participant in the VOA Upward Bound LA  program in 2010 as a 10th grader attending Washington Prep High School.

​

She pursued her undergraduate studies at Dominguez Hills, El Camino College, and graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a Bachelors in Sociology.

​

She has worked with us since 2013 as a Volunteer, Tutor, and English Instructor on a Part-time basis, and now she is serving as our full-time Project Advisor. 

 

Ms. Maggie has worked extensively with LAUSD Schools as she enjoys mentoring students, and provides them with the guidance to pursue their post-secondary studies.

 

 She has served in programs such as LA Promise Fund. During her time at LA Promise Fund, she worked closely with High School administrators while working with the Go For College Team, and South LA NSI, trying to help students get college-ready. 

 

Ms. Maggie’s goal is to obtain a Master's in College Counseling and obtain her PPS to continue to serve students in underrepresented communities.

Robert Cardenas 

Program Advisor

 Mr. Cardenas works directly with the school’s college counselor to promote a college-going culture and ensure that more South LA students are motivated and prepared to attend college.

 

Mr. Cardenas joined the organization in October of 2018. Before joining VOA Upward Bound LA, Mr. Cardenas attended the University of California, Irvine, where he received his Bachelors in Educational Studies.

 

While attending school he served as an advisor for the UC Irvine Early Academic Outreach Program.

 

He has worked extensively with first-generation/low-income students throughout different high schools promoting college and career readiness.

 

Mr.Cardenas is planning on going back to school and gets his Master's in School Counseling with a PPS.
